Welcome back to episode 20! You are in for a treat my friend. The one and only Nick Demos is joining me on the show today. Nick is a Tony and Olivier Award winning producer (MEMPHIS, COME FROM AWAY), award winning filmmaker for his Alzheimer’s film (POLICY OF TRUTH) and writer. His current projects include documentaries on body image in the LGBTQ community (THE BODY ELECTRIC) and the chronic pain syndrome, Fibromyalgia (INVISIBLE); and a book about living in creative flow. Formally he was the Artistic Director of Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma where he transitioned the company to a multi- million dollar business including the building of a brand new theater, a children’s academy, rehearsal studios, scenic and costume shops. For his work he was awarded the “Living Treasure Award” in the state of Oklahoma presented to him by the state’s governor.
He has been teaching yoga, pranayama (breath work), meditation and creativity for over a decade. He is a 1000hr ERYT-500 senior teacher. Additionally he coaches creatives and soul- centered entrepreneurs and teaches them how to authentically utilize stories to leverage their personal brands, and he has an online membership community for their creativity and self-care. Today’s episode is all about Creating Stories That Convert. Let’s dive in!
“I realized I had to shift my life again…” At minute 1:20, Nick shares his story with us including his journey as the Artistic Director of Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma where he transitioned the company into a multi-million dollar non-profit to his yoga journey to getting in the online space.
“What you want is people to relate to you, not be pushed from you…” At 12:15, we’re talking about how to identify a story in your life that you can start to share. P.S. if you think you don’t have an interesting or good enough story to share…you have more stories than you think you do!
“Facts tell, stories sell…” At minute 17:00, if you’re wondering how our stories and storytelling relate to sales, Nick is telling us how it does. Plus, hear the common mistakes he sees people making when using stories in their business.
“You’re looking at the pain of your customer and then relating it to something you went through…” At 21:30, Nick shares why your story is so important to your personal brand and how his own story and background as a theater and filmmaker, shaped him as an entrepreneur. We also talk about moving past the fear of sharing your story or thinking it’s not good enough.
We’re ending the show with Michelle’s Hot Minute where I ask Nick a round of rapid fire questions in one minute! If you want to connect more with Nick, you can find him on his website, Instagram, and Facebook.
Until next time, happy marketing!
